How to remove gel overlay without removing the acrylic tips?
I just got my nails done yesterday and this was the first time I’ve gotten the gel overlay. The nail technician said that gel was better and so did my cousin, so I paid $35. Not even 2 hours later my thumb nail chipped and the gel overlay shattered all the way down. Then I began to notice my other thumb nail shattering for no reason (I did not hit it or anything). The next day, I noticed more shattering on my other nails.
I am very picky about my nails and I can not stand to look at this shattering anymore. I watched the technician apply the nails and the base is my normal acrylic. She then polished then and applied the overlay. How do I remove this overlay without messing up my tips??
Its possible to file the gel topcoat off but unless you’ve done this before and are comfortable with doing this, I’m not recommending that you try it. That said, the only things left are having it repaired/replaced or waiting it out. Best wishes!
Edit: The tech told you gel was better? This happens all the time at discount salons, they always try upselling their services meaning you often go into one of these salons thinking you’ll pay one price only to find out later they are charging you a higher price. Sometimes, its a much higher price than you would have expected. Watch out for a la carte service add ons which can really add up quickly! That’s three dollars for this, three for that, only two for the other thing, and so on
